Biography

Fred Eklund is a Portfolio Coordinator for the Energy and Environment Partnership Trust Fund (EEP Africa), a clean energy facility managed by the Nordic Development Fund (NDF).

EEP Africa provides early stage grant and catalytic debt financing for innovative clean energy projects, technologies and business models in 15 countries across Southern and East Africa. The Fund aims to stimulate climate-resilient green growth by enhancing clean energy access, development and investment, with a particular focus on vulnerable and underserved groups. Since 2010, EEP Africa has committed more than EUR 70 million to 250 pioneering projects, of which 45 have advanced clean cooking.

Fred is a well-known expert with 15+ years of experience in the renewable energy and environmental sector. He manages key aspects of the EEP Africa portfolio and funding process and plays a leading role in the Fund’s business development, knowledge management, and monitoring and evaluation. Fred’s extensive experience in renewable energy projects – from a technical, financial and socioeconomic perspective – provides him with a solid background to facilitate the larger uptake of renewable energy technologies.
