Martha Kamanu Mutugi

Martha is the Principal Marketing Officer, Sales Growth, at Kenya Power. Her overall responsibility is to enhance electricity sales through marketing of electricity and related services. She’s responsible for developing and implementing programs on the marketing of electricity, sales growth plans, integrated customer education programs and campaigns as well as providing leadership and guidance on matters pertaining to marketing. The ‘pika na power’ cookery program is one of the key programs that she’s responsible for. The objective of the program is to promote electricity as a safe and affordable cooking solution.

Martha has over twenty years’ experience in the electricity sector and has been involved in electrification of new customers through Umeme Pamoja, government funded rural electrification, donor funded last mile, and GPOBA connectivity programs. She’s been involved in community and stakeholder engagement at the grassroots level and has implemented customer education and awareness forums.

She has served as the Kenya Power representative in the government-led Ease of Doing Business team and coordinated the initiatives within the company to improve the ease of getting electricity. She was also a member of the inter-ministerial Taskforce that was responsible for the development of the Kenya National Electrification Strategy, currently under implementation.

Martha holds an M.B.A. from the University of Nairobi and is a recipient of a Head of State commendation due to her role in the improvement of the Ease of Getting Electricity Index, which significantly contributed to the improvement of the country’s Ease of Doing Business ranking.
