Michael Nyaga

Michael Nyaga has over 15 years of experience in banking. Currently, he is the Equity Group General Manager in charge of Digital Lending, Product Innovation, Digitization Initiatives, Credit Card Management as well as training and empowerment for over 1,200 Credit Team Members in various branches.

The Consumer Credit Portfolio he manages currently controls USD 650M, equivalent to 30% of Equity Bank’s total loan portfolio. This translates to 20% of the total Personal Loan Market in the East African region. He is also involved in partnerships with DFIs (Development Finance Institutions) on credit facilities with respect to Risk Sharing Agreements.

He is a senior member of Equity’s Core Transformation Team and specifically in charge of digitizing the bank’s credit operations. He is also part of the Kenyan Credit Information Sharing Technical Working Group (TWG) as constituted by the Central Bank of Kenya for entrenching Credit Scores in the Lending Process of the Financial Institutions in Kenya.

Michael holds an M.B.A. in International Business from the University of Nairobi, a B.A. in Economics from Catholic University of Eastern Africa and a Certification in Credit Management from the Kenya Accounts and Secretaries Board. He has also completed an Executive Education course on Financial Inclusion at the Harvard Kennedy School.
